The BU campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity works closely with local affiliates in the Greater Boston area and with the larger Habitat community to achieve the goal of affordable housing for everyone. Founded in 1995, our chapter participates regularly in build trips throughout Massachusetts, donating our time and labor to achieving our goal. We hold group meetings bi-weekly where members have a chance to sign up for build trips and help plan special events to fundraise and raise awareness throughout the school year. We also annually send a group of about twenty students to volunteer in an alternative Collegiate Challenge program the week of spring break.
Our affiliate Boston Habitat plans to buy up eight of the fifteen foreclosed houses within this neighborhood, renovate them, and sell them to families in need with affordable, interest-free mortgages. We are currently fundraising to raise the $50,000 necessary to sponsor one of these houses on Dacia St. in Dorchester. So far we have raised about $41,000! This will provide a home for a family in need as well as save a quickly deteriorating neighborhood. With your help we can vastly improve the lives of those families in Dorchester affected by this foreclosure crisis!
