JIVA, meaning life, is the Boston University Jain Student Association. The Jain religion, one of India’s oldest religious traditions, has become a spiritual tradition and way of life for numerous people across the world. It is a monastic religion based on the principles of truthfulness, respect for living beings, non-possession, karmic cycle, reincarnation of the worldly soul, and liberation through understanding and realization. JIVA was created with the intention of fostering an atmosphere where BU students can learn about Jainism through discussion of religious and philosophical issues, observe Jain spiritual practices (i.e. meditation), practice Jain principles through community service, and celebrate Jain holidays.
