Parent Organization: Allocations Board
Global Medical Brigades is a secular, international student-operated volunteer organization whose mission is to provide sustained health care to underserved communities throughout the world. Global Medical Brigades is a part of the larger organization known as Global Brigades, which is the world's largest student-led international relief program.
Along with affiliate groups at other distinguished universities, our BU team recruits student volunteers and medical professionals, gathers medicine and other supplies, and then travels overseas to perform these medical brigades. Our current emphasis is to help the impoverished villages of Honduras in collaboration with one of their country's most highly regarded nonprofits, Sociedad Amigos de los Ninos, led by Sister Maria Rosa Leggol, a recent nominee of the Nobel Peace Prize.
We will hold two trips per year at a time decided by the executive board. We will recruit dedicated students, nurses, residents, pharmacists, dentists and doctors to volunteer on each trip. Along with the medical brigades, students will participate in several community projects that aim to also better the quality of life in these impoverished areas. The cost is $750 for the week plus airfare, which typically can range from $600 - $900.
